A Case of Gastric Plasmacytoma

Abstract
|
|
|
xtramedullary plasmacytomas represent plasma cell tumors which present in an
extrameduallary site and usually develop in the upper airway passages, but rarely present in
the stomach.
A 34 years old woman was presented with one month's history of indigestion and
heartburn. Gastrofiberscopy showed a multiple polypoid masses at antrum of the stomach.
Histologic examination revealed solid sheets of plasma cells with varying proportion of mature
and immature form. Immunohistochemnical staining showed strong positive for IgM and
kappa chain, but serum and urine protein electrophoresis was normal. Roentgenographic and
bone marrow examination was also normal. She was treated by hemigastrectomy alone.
The surgical pathology was unique in that the lesion was confined to mucosa and submucosa
of the gastric antrum without evidence of regional lymph node involvement. We will follow
up the patient for local recurrence or transformation to multiple myeloma.
